Diego San Millán is a diagnostic and interventional neuroradiologist trained in Geneva University Hospital and at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA. He is currently head of the Neuroradiology Unit at the Valais Hospital in Sion, Switzerland and Adjunct Faculty in the Division of Interventional Neuroradiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA. He obtained his MD from Geneva University, where he later worked in the Morphology Department prior to training in neuroradiology. He became interested in the central nervous venous system early during his students years and extensively studied its anatomy. His thesis on the venous system of the base of the skull and cranio-cervical junction was awarded the best clinical thesis of the Faculty of Medicine. During his training and practice as a clinical neuroradiologist, his main interest has been geared at better understanding how the cerebral venous system may be the common denominator of various neurological disease processes including cerebral ageing and neurodegenerative disorders.
