Dr. Ole Petter Ottersen (MD, PhD) is Professor at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Oslo. Until taking up his current position as University President he was Director of the Centre for Molecular Biology and Neuroscience (www.cmbn.no; a Norwegian Centre of Excellence sponsored by the Research Council of Norway). He has also co-ordinated one of the three Nordic Centres of Excellence in Molecular Medicine (WIRED) and two projects under EUs framework programmes. Ottersen has published more than 300 papers and is included in ISI’s list of Highly Cited Scientists. He is the recipient of several international prizes including the Jahre Prize and the Lundbeck Prize.
